Dear Sir, 1. Following UPSC pattern of examination, the Punjab Public Service Commission has changed its examination pattern from the year 2012, by including CSAT examination in the Prelim Exams and further adopted the UPSC type syllabus from the PPSC Exams of 2013 by introducing four General Studies Papers.
2. UPSC has increased the upper age limit and also the number of attempts for all categories. While the upper age limit has been increased by the PPSC and completely changed the examination pattern, there has not been any correspondence increase in number of attempts.
3. Since the candidates were given very less time for the adjustment, they deserve 3 extra attempts/age relaxation, especially for those who are at their last chance of writing the exam. Ex-servicemen candidates were earlier exempted from Optional papers in the Mains. With the change in examination pattern and removal optional papers, syllabus for Ex-servicemen is at par with all other candidates but attempts are same, three for Ex-servicemen as compared with four for general category candidates. It is very difficult for ex-servicemen to crack the examination with frequent changes introduced in the examination without giving any corresponding relaxation in number of attempts. 4. Please advise what can be done to convince the PPSC to increase the number of chances for Ex-servicemen after change of pattern, as has been done by the UPSC.

Very well researched Maj Navdeep. I am an Ex NDA permanent commissioned officer. I served in high altitude area in Kupwara sector and suffered from severe Chill Blaines. I was down graded as SHAPE-2 in 1990 and repeatedly in every review board till 1996. My LMC was made permanent low medical Category in 1996. I applied for premature release from the army since I would not be eligible to command active troops plus I was not meant to be posted to cold climatic regions which was were the bulk of the army was. I was granted release in 1997 . My RMB states my disability as 19% that was the norm by the AMC doctors then. At the time of release I had 10 years of service , thus not eligible for any regular pension benefits. In the scenarios that you have mentioned , looks like my disability must be eligible for some sort of disability pension. Pl confirm my appreciation.
